A comprehensive education transformation is showing dramatic results across Nigeria, with 2.3 million learners benefiting from federal interventions in just six months, Education Minister Dr. Tunji Alausa announced on Monday.
Alausa, during the launch of the Federal Ministry of Education’s Communication Strategy in Abuja, revealed that the impact comes from multiple initiatives including the construction of 4,900 new classrooms, renovation of 3,000 existing ones, and distribution of 353,000 pieces of furniture to schools nationwide.
He announced that the National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme which was previously suspended in January 2024 will also be relaunched, levering technology to ensure transparency.
“We have identified the states where we would start piloting the school feeding programme. Mothers will be paid directly to ensure that children are fed well, and we have put mechanisms in place to guarantee transparency and accountability,” he said.
The minister outlined several groundbreaking developments including the migration of 21 states to the Nigeria Education Data Initiative, enabling the government to monitor students’ educational journeys from primary through secondary school.
The minister disclosed that the new TVET digital platform attracted 1.3 million applicants, with 58,000 already matched to training centers, adding that starting 2025/26, technical schools will offer free tuition, boarding, feeding, and a ₦22,500 monthly stipend.
