President Trump who, on his social media handle, declared Nigeria as a \u2018Country of Particular Concern\u2019, following growing concern about what many discerning Nigerians describe as spurious and mischievous allegations of mass slaughter of Christians in the west African country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reacting to the allegations, the Nigerian government has rejected the claim by the U.S. President, insisting that the allegation does not reflect the reality within the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump threatened that he is redesignating Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern,” stating, “Christianity is facing an existential threat in Nigeria. Thousands of Christians are being killed. Radical Islamists are responsible for this mass slaughter.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a statement issued on Saturday by Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Federal Government maintained its stance on the nation’s religious harmony.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNigeria notes the recent remarks by U.S. President Donald J. Trump alleging large-scale killings of Christians in Nigeria and calling for the country\u2019s designation as a ‘Country of Particular Concern,'” the statement read.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhile Nigeria appreciates global concern for human rights and religious freedom, these claims do not reflect the situation on the ground. Nigerians of all faiths have long lived, worked, and worshipped together peacefully.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The statement reaffirmed the Tinubu administration’s commitment to “fighting terrorism, strengthening interfaith harmony, and protecting the lives and rights of all its people,” and pledged to continue “constructive” engagement with the U.S. government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
