The response follows Trump’s designation of Nigeria as a \u201cCountry of Particular Concern\u201d over alleged persecution of Christians, a claim Tinubu’s government has rejected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaking before a Federal Executive Council meeting, President Tinubu stated, \u201cThe most important thing is the fact that despite the political headwinds and the fear of our people, we will continue to engage with partners. We are engaging the world diplomatically, and we assure all of you that we will defeat terrorism in this country.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He urged national unity and resolve, adding, \u201cDo we have problems? Yes. Are we challenged by terrorism? Yes. But we will defeat terrorism. We will overcome the CPC designation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Addressing reporters afterward, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Muhammed Idris, confirmed that diplomatic communications with the US are underway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe responsibility that we have as a government is to ensure that whatever genuine concerns that there are to keep our citizens safe, the Nigerian government will continue to do that,\u201d Idris stated. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He emphasized a calm and measured approach, noting, \u201cThere is no panic mode. We are responding responsibly, steadily, and in the interest of our country.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
