The House of Representatives’ Ad-Hoc Committee on Rivers State oversight has summoned Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, the state’s Sole Administrator, to appear before it for an interactive session.

According to a statement by House Spokesman Akin Rotimi, the invitation was issued during the committee’s inaugural meeting on Wednesday, April 16, 2025.

The 21-member committee, chaired by House Leader Prof. Julius Ihonvbere, was set up by Speaker Abbas Tajudeen on Tuesday, April 15, 2025. The committee’s formation came after the National Assembly’s approval of President Bola Tinubu’s proclamation of a state of emergency in Rivers State.

Ibas is expected to appear before the committee on Thursday, April 17, 2025, at 4:00 PM in Room 414, House of Representatives New Building, National Assembly Complex, Abuja.

The committee aims to “ascertain the true state of affairs in Rivers State and ensure that the House remains properly guided in the discharge of its oversight responsibilities in the public interest”.

A formal letter of invitation has been sent and acknowledged, and the committee has reiterated its commitment to transparency and diligence in its proceedings, strictly adhering to the Nigerian Constitution.

This move comes after President Tinubu suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, and state legislators, citing intense political instability and crisis in the state.
