A fatal collision involving a trailer and a sachet water delivery vehicle on Monday caused chaos on the Karu Bridge along Abuja’s Nyanya-Mararaba route, leaving multiple fatalities feared.

The incident, which occurred just 24 hours after a separate multi-car crash claimed lives at the same location, has intensified calls for improved road safety measures.

Eyewitnesses attributed the latest accident to a collision between the two vehicles, with emergency teams rushing to the scene to extract victims and manage the aftermath. While the exact death toll remains unconfirmed, the crash triggered severe traffic gridlock on the critical thoroughfare, disrupting commuter movement for hours.

“The unfortunate crash was caused by a trailer and a vehicle conveying sachet water, popularly referred to as pure water,” an eyewitness stated. Authorities have yet to release official casualty figures as rescue operations continue.

This marks the third major accident near Karu Bridge in recent weeks. The Guardian reports that last month, at least two similar crashes at the site resulted in multiple fatalities, raising alarm over the corridor’s safety record.

The latest tragedy underscores persistent infrastructure and regulatory challenges on one of Abuja’s busiest routes, with locals urging swift government intervention to prevent further loss of life.
