President Bola Tinubu commissioned the new 15km A2-Pia Town Road on Thursday with a passionate appeal to Nigerians to transform infrastructure projects into engines of economic and social transformation.
Standing before jubilant crowds in the Federal Capital Territory, the President declared: “Road and infrastructure development are meaningless if we don’t develop them for the benefit of our people. This road must be more than just a pathway; it should be a lifeline for commerce, agriculture, education, and daily living.”
The ceremony marked a strategic push by the administration to extend development beyond Abuja’s urban core into underserved rural communities. Tinubu personally handed over stewardship of the project to Pia residents, stating: “To the people of Pia, this is your road. I urge the community to take ownership of this infrastructure, guide it, maintain it, and use it to the fullest.”
The President described the project as both practical mobility solution and economic catalyst: “This is not just a road; it’s a gateway to prosperity. Rural communities like Pia have long been hindered by isolation and poor access. With this project, that narrative is changing.”
Tinubu reserved special praise for FCT Minister Nyesom Wike’s rural development focus, noting: “A leader like Barrister Nyesom Wike and his team is doing a wonderful job, thinking about the people and their needs.” The President specifically commended contractors for delivering “a road built to last, which will serve future generations.”
Beyond transportation, the administration sees the project as stabilizing agricultural communities. Tinubu pledged support for modern ranching initiatives, vowing: “We will work with you to turn what used to be a liability into a source of prosperity.”
Landowners were reminded of appreciating asset values, with the President quipping: “Those of you who own real estate around here will be extremely happy for this value addition.”
