The Federal Government has launched an aggressive campaign against malnutrition with Vice President Kashim Shettima inaugurating the Nutrition 774 Strategic Board at the Presidential Villa on Friday, describing the initiative as a critical battle for national development.
“This strategic board is not a ceremonial committee; it is a war room, assembled to win the battle against malnutrition in every corner of this country,” Shettima declared, emphasizing the urgency of the intervention.
The Vice President described malnutrition as a “quiet emergency” crippling homes, schools and IDP camps nationwide. “A malnourished population is an unproductive one, and an unproductive population drags down the wheels of progress,” he warned, directing state governors and local government chairmen to prioritize implementation.
The initiative seeks to unify fragmented nutrition programs under one framework. Women Affairs Minister Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim highlighted vulnerable groups, stating: “You find homes headed by an eleven-year-old because both parents have been lost. Economic empowerment for women must be part of this strategy.”
The launch signals Nigeria’s most coordinated effort yet to combat malnutrition, with the board mandated to oversee grassroots interventions across all 774 LGAs.
Shettima warned, “This is not a tea-drinking exercise. It is a race against time to save lives and safeguard our future.”
