The Presidency has firmly dismissed viral social media reports claiming the removal of Senator George Akume as Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), labeling such speculation as entirely false.

In an official statement released Saturday, President Bola Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, clarified: “There has been no change in the status of His Excellency, Senator George Akume, as Secretary to the Government of the Federation.”

Onanuga emphasized that President Tinubu – currently in Saint Lucia – has made no changes to the SGF position, attributing the rumors to “agents of mischief.”

“The information circulating about Akume’s replacement is untrue. Agents of mischief fabricated it,” he stated categorically. The Presidency advised the public to disregard the unfounded reports, reiterating that all official government appointments and changes are announced through proper channels.

Senator Akume, former Benue State governor and political stalwart, has served as SGF since his 2023 appointment by President Tinubu.
