The Federal Government has rolled out a special visa amnesty program to help foreign nationals regularize their immigration status in the country. The initiative, which took effect on May 1, 2025, will run through September 30, 2025, according to an official communique released by the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) in Abuja.

The program offers a penalty-free window for foreigners who have overstayed their visas or violated visa conditions to correct their immigration status.

It specifically covers holders of expired Visa on Arrival (VoA), Single and Multiple-Entry Visas, as well as those with overdue Combined Expatriate Residence Permit and Aliens Card (CERPAC) renewals beyond the 30-day grace period.

“Affected foreign nationals are encouraged to regularize their stay through the designated portal at https://amnesty.immigration.gov.ng during the grace period to avoid penalties for overstaying,” said NIS National Spokesman Akinsola Akinlabi.

To ensure smooth implementation, the NIS has set up a dedicated support team to assist applicants. Foreign nationals can contact the team via email at amnesty@immigration.gov.ng or visit the official NIS website at http://www.immigration.gov.ng for additional guidance.

The amnesty program forms part of government efforts to strengthen migration management while offering a compassionate solution for foreign residents who may have inadvertently fallen out of compliance with immigration regulations.

Authorities emphasize this limited-time opportunity allows for status correction without the usual penalties, promoting both immigration compliance and national security.
