The Futile Hallucinations of Netanyahu’s “Greater Israel” Dream, By Professor Abdullahi Danladi

The recurring illusion of a so-called “Greater Israel,” propagated with renewed arrogance under the leadership of Benjamin Netanyahu, stands as one of the most futile and reckless hallucinations of modern geopolitics. This delusion, deeply rooted in extremist Zionist ideology, seeks to subjugate entire nations, redraw boundaries through force, and institutionalize oppression as a permanent state policy. Yet history, morality, and the unshakable will of oppressed peoples ensure that this vision is not only unsustainable but doomed to collapse under its own contradictions.

Netanyahu and his cohorts have mistaken brute force for legitimacy. They believe that through unending massacres in Gaza, illegal settlements in the West Bank, and the theft of land across Palestine, they can bend reality to fit their dream of an expanded Israeli state stretching “from the Nile to the Euphrates.”

This expansionist fantasy is nothing but a grotesque hallucination—an attempt to replace international law with a policy of might makes right. But no empire built on blood, theft, and apartheid has ever stood the test of time, and Israel will be no exception.

The Palestinian struggle, despite unimaginable suffering, remains unbroken. Every child martyred, every home demolished, every olive tree uprooted only deepens the resolve of a people who refuse to vanish. Netanyahu’s illusion assumes that Palestinians will tire, that Arabs will normalize, and that the world will look away forever. This is the height of delusion. Even today, global consciousness is awakening to the atrocities in Gaza, the dispossession in Jerusalem, and the apartheid walls choking Palestinian life. The louder Israel asserts its so-called permanence, the more obvious its fragility becomes.

Furthermore, Netanyahu’s hallucination fails to recognize the shifting tides of regional and international politics. Resistance movements, no matter how demonized, have repeatedly exposed the vulnerability of Israel’s military might. The idea that tanks, warplanes, and foreign backing can create permanent security is another illusion that collapses with every rocket that evades Iron Dome and every battlefield humiliation that exposes Israeli weakness. The so-called “invincible Israel” has been pierced, and the myth of its permanence is unraveling.

The dream of a “Greater Israel” is also a curse upon Israelis themselves. It condemns generations to endless war, isolation, and moral bankruptcy. A state that sustains itself only through perpetual aggression cannot nurture peace for its own people. The Zionist leadership, blinded by arrogance, is dragging its citizens into a cycle of fear and hatred that will ultimately implode from within. No hallucination, however fervent, can forever conceal the truth: peace and survival cannot be achieved by denying another people their right to live freely on their own land.

History is unforgiving. From the fall of apartheid in South Africa to the collapse of colonial empires across the world, the verdict is clear—oppression may last long, but it never lasts forever. Netanyahu’s delusion of “Greater Israel” is destined to join the dustbin of history, remembered not as a triumph but as the most shameful and futile of hallucinations.

The world must recognize and confront this reality: the only path forward is justice for Palestinians and the dismantling of apartheid. Anything less only prolongs the suffering and the inevitable fall of this hallucinated empire.
