A northern youth organization has sharply criticized former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai for his recent comments accusing the Federal Government of complicity in the nation’s security crisis.

The Coalition of Northern Youths Consultative Movement (CNYCM), in a statement from its National Coordinator Comrade Yusuf Audu and National Secretary Bilal Galadima, demanded El-Rufai retract his allegations, which it termed “reckless, baseless, and irresponsible.” The group also called for a public apology.

The CNYCM warned that such accusations risk inflaming tensions and undermining national unity, stating they are a distraction from collective efforts to solve the country’s complex security challenges.

The group’s statement emphasized the duty of leaders to use responsible language.

“As leaders, we must prioritise communication that fosters national cohesion and encourages collaborative problem-solving, rather than rhetoric that could exacerbate existing tensions,” it read.

In a contrasting move, the group praised Senator Shehu Buba, Chairman of the Senate Committee on National Security and Intelligence, for his “tireless efforts” and strategic, non-kinetic approach to mitigating insecurity, citing him as a model of responsible leadership.
