The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has shut down ten businesses in Abuja, including two Chinese-owned supermarkets and eight cosmetics shops, for selling unregistered and improperly labeled products.
The enforcement raid, conducted under the directive of Director-General Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, led to the confiscation of goods valued at over ₦170 million. The targeted supermarkets in Jabi District were found selling food items labeled exclusively in Chinese, violating regulations that mandate English labeling for consumer safety.
In Wuse Market, eight cosmetics shops were sealed for distributing banned, expired, and unregistered products. The operation uncovered individuals impersonating healthcare professionals to market dangerous body enhancement and skin-whitening substances. Seized items included aphrodisiacs like Wenicks and Maxman Capsules, as well as Boobs Enlargement supplements and Skin Whitening Vitamin Gummies.
Prof. Adeyeye emphasized the agency’s commitment to protecting Nigerians from harmful substances linked to severe health risks, including skin cancer and organ damage.
She urged consumers to buy only NAFDAC-registered products, advised foreign business owners to comply with Nigerian laws, and called on the public to report suspicious outlets.
