The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has closed a supermarket in Maitama, Abuja, after uncovering banned, unregistered, and counterfeit products on its shelves.

During an earlier inspection, NAFDAC operatives found multiple illicit items in the store. The agency then summoned the supermarket’s management for questioning—but they refused to comply.

In a statement on its official X page, NAFDAC confirmed that the supermarket’s lack of cooperation led to a second enforcement raid, where staff reportedly tried to block officers from carrying out their duties.

“NAFDAC has sealed a supermarket located in Maitama, Abuja, for the sale and distribution of banned, unregistered, and counterfeit regulated products,” the agency stated. “The supermarket also obstructed NAFDAC officers during the enforcement of regulatory actions.”

Among the confiscated products were unapproved pet food, prohibited imported soaps, and counterfeit rice that had been illegally repackaged.

NAFDAC reaffirmed its zero-tolerance policy toward violations, emphasizing its duty to protect consumers from harmful and fraudulent goods. The agency warned that businesses flouting regulations would face strict penalties.
