Abdulaziz Abdulaziz, a presidential media aide has revealed that the President’s visit to Katsina this Weekend was primarily aimed to address the state’s deteriorating security situation.
According to Abdulaziz, President Bola Tinubu’s trip placed Nigeria’s worsening banditry crisis at the center of national attention.
“First and foremost, security was a major consideration,” said Abdulaziz in an exclusive interview with Katsina Times, adding that “Katsina is one of the states most affected by armed banditry, and the federal government is doing everything within its power to address the situation.”
The presidential aide emphasized Tinubu’s direct engagement with security commanders during the visit, calling it proof of the administration’s commitment to stabilizing northern Nigeria. The trip included closed-door meetings with military leaders and local security stakeholders amid escalating attacks that have displaced thousands across Katsina.
While the visit also touched on development projects and political relationships – including Tinubu’s attendance at the Katsina governor’s daughter’s wedding – Abdulaziz stressed that security concerns dominated the agenda, revealing that the president inspected troops and received security briefings, signaling Abuja’s growing alarm over the region’s violence.
According to Abdulaziz, the choice of Katsina for such high-level security engagement carries symbolic weight, coming just weeks after bandits attacked a community in the state, killing over 20 villagers.
Security analysts view the president’s personal intervention as both a tactical move and political necessity, with northwest Nigeria emerging as the nation’s most active conflict zone after the northeast insurgency.
“The President’s presence here sends a clear message,” Abdulaziz noted. “This administration won’t abandon Nigerians to criminal elements.”
However, he provided no specifics about new security measures, leaving residents awaiting tangible results from the high-profile visit.
