The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has called on the suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, to clearly state his demands to President Bola Tinubu instead of merely pleading for peace.
Wike, currently in China on official business, made the remarks through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, in a statement released Saturday. He emphasized that true peace requires action, not just words.
This comes after Fubara reportedly met with Tinubu in London in April over the ongoing political crisis that led to his suspension.
The minister accused Fubara and his allies of hypocrisy, saying they publicly call for peace while engaging in actions that undermine it.
“How can you say you want peace and at the same time, you are sponsoring people to insult everyone, including the President and his wife?” Wike questioned.
“All those shenanigans won’t bring peace, and I am sure they know that, because they are not sincere with their up and down pleadings for peace.
”Wike also condemned the recent incident where some Rivers women walked out on the First Lady during an empowerment event in Port Harcourt, where 500 women were set to receive support.
“As for me and those who subscribe to my leadership, we condemn in totality that yesterday’s show of shame and we apologise to our First Lady for the embarrassing conduct of those few women who do not represent the characters and ideals of the people of Rivers State,” he stated.
The women had protested, demanding Fubara’s reinstatement—a move Wike dismissed as insincere theatrics.
