The Federal Government has finalized arrangements for the distribution of 753 housing units recovered through forfeiture proceedings by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Arc. Ahmed Dangiwa, Minister of Housing and Urban Development, revealed the plans during the inauguration of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) board in Abuja on Monday.
The properties, transferred to the housing ministry under President Bola Tinubu’s directive, will undergo comprehensive structural assessments before allocation. “We want to take the houses to a particular level of semi-finished before we disburse them to the Nigerian public,” Dangiwa explained.
A technical committee will be constituted immediately to conduct integrity tests on the buildings and evaluate estate infrastructure, with a four-week deadline to complete the assessment. The minister confirmed that while some units will serve government needs, most will be available for public allocation through the ministry’s Renewed Hope Portal.
“Through the portal, Nigerians can access, choose the house they want, and select a suitable payment option,” Dangiwa stated, adding that funding would be secured to complete necessary renovations before the formal allocation process begins. The ministry will announce detailed disposal procedures after completing the property evaluations.
