The European Union has announced a €10.4 million investment in Nigeria’s Solar for Health Project (NISHP), an initiative designed to provide sustainable solar energy solutions to micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and primary healthcare centers across the country.

Speaking at the Project Developers Roundtable Workshop in Abuja, Inga Stephanowicz, Head of Section for Green & Digital Economy at the EU, described the initiative as a significant milestone in Nigeria’s renewable energy sector.

“This €10.4 million initiative, funded by the European Union, marks a milestone in the project’s implementation in Nigeria,” Stephanowicz said.

“NISHP will provide 24-hour access to clean, efficient, and reliable energy to MSMEs and participating public healthcare facilities across the country.”

Stephanowicz emphasized the EU’s collaborative approach, stating: “By working together with the Nigerian government, private sector entities, and local communities, the EU is supporting Nigeria’s development goals and promoting a brighter future for its citizens.”

She further explained that the project would extend beyond healthcare centers, leveraging state government partnerships to electrify SMEs and telecom towers.

Nasiru Bello, Team Lead for NISHP, highlighted the transformative potential of the initiative, noting: “By leveraging solar power, Nigeria could improve healthcare outcomes, increase access to electricity, and promote economic growth.”

The project represents a strategic effort to address Nigeria’s energy challenges while supporting sustainable development and economic resilience.
