The Federal Government is in the final stages of reviving the long-dormant Ajaokuta Steel Company, according to the Minister of Steel Development, Shuaibu Abubakar Audu.
Audu made the announcement during a meeting with All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders in Kogi State at his residence in Ogbonicha, Ofu Local Government Area.
He revealed that the government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the plant’s Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) and is actively seeking private investors, including from China, to ensure its full revival.
“We are doing a tremendous job. The journey has started, and we will be able to turn Ajaokuta and deliver results very quickly,” Audu stated.
The minister highlighted the move as part of President Bola Tinubu’s broader economic reforms, aimed at boosting Nigeria’s economy through steel sector development. He emphasized Tinubu’s commitment to tackling national challenges, strengthening the economy, and improving citizens’ welfare.
“In just two years, Mr. President has shown strong political will and commitment to transform Nigeria. State FAAC allocations have increased significantly, and Kogi State has directly benefitted from this boost,” Audu added.
He also pointed to the recent decline in food prices as evidence of the impact of the administration’s “Renewed Hope” agenda.
In response, APC State Secretary, Mr. Joshua Onoja, praised the minister for hosting the gathering and reaffirmed the party’s full backing for Tinubu’s re-election.
“The Kogi APC remains united and committed to President Tinubu’s success,” Onoja assured.
The event drew a large turnout of party leaders, including local government chairmen, councilors, state assembly members, and supporters from across Kogi East, Central, and West.
