The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has issued a strong advisory to President Bola Tinubu’s administration, urging immediate action on Nigeria’s deepening crises of rampant insecurity, hyperinflation making basic goods unaffordable, collapsing energy and education sectors, and the naira’s continued freefall – rather than premature preparations for the 2027 elections.
In a Sallah message signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Professor Tukur Muhammad-Baba, the northern socio-political organization delivered a pointed critique of the government’s priorities.
The statement came as a direct response to recent political maneuvers by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), which saw all 22 APC governors, federal lawmakers, and party executives formally endorsing Tinubu for a second term during a high-profile summit at the Presidential Villa.
“The government appears more focused on election calculations than solving Nigerians’ sufferings,” the ACF observed, adding: “As we observed a year ago, the existential challenges above are symptomatic of a fundamental malaise in the political economy, calling for urgent public policy attention.”
The Forum particularly criticized what it called the administration’s misplaced priorities, noting: “Disappointingly, it would seem to be the case that the ruling party at the centre is more obsessed with unprecedented early campaigns, defections to it, and other manoeuvres for re-election in 2027, amidst putative celebrations of mid-term policy successes.”
This marks the second consecutive year the northern elders have used the Eid-el-Kabir message to caution the Tinubu administration about neglecting governance for politics.
