President Bola Tinubu has expressed profound grief over three separate violent incidents that claimed numerous lives in Borno, Kano, and Plateau States over the weekend, vowing to bring perpetrators to justice while calling for enhanced security measures nationwide.
Borno Market Bombing
In Konduga, Borno State, a female suicide bomber detonated an IED at a bustling fish market Friday night, killing 12 and injuring 18. ASP Nahum Daso, Borno Police spokesperson, confirmed: “A joint response team comprising personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, the Military, EOD-CBRN Unit, and other security agencies was swiftly deployed…to manage the emergency.”
Tinubu, through spokesman Bayo Onanuga, condemned the “cowardly” attack, urging security forces to “double their efforts in routing remnants of Boko Haram insurgents who resort to attacks on soft targets.” He directed NEMA to provide immediate aid to survivors.
Kano Scrap Yard Explosion
A separate tragedy struck Kano on Saturday when an explosion at a scrap metal site killed five and injured 15. Police Commissioner Ibrahim Adamu Bakori revealed: “Preliminary findings suggest the explosive material was being transported by a trailer,” possibly containing military ordnance from Yobe State. The President demanded a full investigation into safety lapses surrounding the incident.
Plateau Mob Attack
In Plateau State, 12 Kaduna-bound travelers were murdered by a mob in Mangu LGA while en route to a wedding. Tinubu branded the killings “unacceptable and barbaric,” ordering security agencies to apprehend the culprits. “Freedom of movement…is non-negotiable,” he declared, warning against “acts of extreme violence and fear.”
The President extended condolences to all affected families and state governments, pledging federal support to prevent recurring violence. These incidents underscore mounting security challenges in northern Nigeria, testing Tinubu’s administration amid calls for decisive action.
