President Bola Tinubu paid an emotional tribute to the late business titan Alhaji Aminu Dantata on Friday, praising his lifelong devotion to uplifting Nigeria’s less privileged during a condolence visit to the Dantata family home in Kano.
In his first trip to Kano since taking office in 2023, Tinubu described Dantata as a national treasure whose generosity transcended commerce.
“Here is a man of immense personality, honesty, integrity, and philanthropy, commitment to humanity in every aspect of the world,” the President reflected before family members and dignitaries.
With vivid imagery, Tinubu suggested Dantata’s benevolence would persist even in the afterlife: “If they do friendship and they do contact over and beyond in the other world, a larger Dantata will be in a marketplace distributing food to the hungry and giving the sick happiness.”
The President shared personal connections, revealing how Dantata supported his political journey: “I came here to seek his prayer before the election. He gave me that prayer.” He emphasized the industrialist’s patriotic spirit, noting “He’s so committed to the great value of our country.”
Alhaji Tajudeen Dantata, the eldest son, thanked Tinubu for demonstrating “genuine friendship” through the visit, acknowledging the longstanding bond between the families. He noted the gesture confirmed the nation shared their loss.
The condolence delegation included Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Deputy Senate President Jibril Barau, and Kano Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, who received Tinubu at Aminu Kano International Airport alongside Jigawa Governor Umar Namadi and four federal ministers.
