History was made yesterday when the 32 year-old Mass Communication Department of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria, produced its first PhD Graduate – Dr Tukur Muhammad, under the leadership of the department’s first female Head, Associate Professor Adama Adamu.

Muhammad successfully defended his PhD yesterday under the supervision of the trio of Professor Maryam Ibrahim, Professor Ibrahim Jimoh and Dr Mahmud Umar.

A strong Second Class Upper B.Sc degree 2004 graduate of the same department, Muhammad, proceeded to the University of Lagos in 2006 where he obtained his M.Sc degree in 2008, under the supervision of Professor Ralph Akinfeleye.

He enrolled for his PhD in Ahmadu Bello University Zaria in the year 2022, where he obtained the terminal degree within the short and record period of three years, thereby debunking the myth that PhD is never, and can never be obtained in ABU within that period.

A hardworking, astute scholar and researcher, Dr Tukur Muhammad who is a Senior Military Officer with the Nigerian Navy has served as the Spokesman of many military units, before his deployment to Abuja where he is presently the Spokesman of one the units of the Nigerian Navy.
