President Bola Tinubu has announced key nominations to lead the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), with Dr. Abdullahi Ramat, a seasoned electrical engineer and strategic management expert, tapped as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.

In a Thursday statement by Presidential Adviser Bayo Onanuga, two additional nominations were revealed: Abubakar Yusuf as Commissioner for Consumer Affairs and Fouad Olayinka Animashun as Commissioner for Finance and Management Services. All appointments await Senate confirmation.

“The President directed that Engr Ramat assume office in acting capacity pending his screening by the Senate, as stipulated by the law,” the statement noted, ensuring regulatory continuity during the transition period.

The 39-year-old Ramat brings multidisciplinary expertise to the role, holding a doctorate in Strategic Management alongside his engineering credentials.

President Tinubu charged the nominees to leverage their professional backgrounds in advancing the administration’s power sector reforms, emphasizing their critical role in realizing Nigeria’s electricity vision.

The nominations come at a pivotal moment for Nigeria’s energy sector, with the new team expected to address longstanding regulatory challenges while implementing the government’s electricity access agenda.
