Ahead of the August 25th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the leadership of the party have reviewed the anti-party activities of some members and have concluded plans to sanction them ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The sanction, Weekend Trust gathered, might be part of the ongoing negotiations with some prominent opposition leaders, including the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate in the last election, Peter Obi, to join the party.
The party leadership, the source said, was focusing its attention on those who have endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for re-election in 2027.
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has been among the consistent members of the PDP who have at different fora endorsed the re-election bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, even though the president himself is yet to declare his intention to run for a second term in office.
Although he is a member of the PDP, an opposition party, Wike is a minister in the administration of President Bola Tinubu of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Recently, a former governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose, joined members of the state chapter of the APC to endorse President Tinubu for a second term in office in 2027. Fayose, however, showed that he was still a member of the PDP by wearing the face cap of the party to the event, where he boldly joined APC members to endorse Tinubu.
Also, about two weeks ago, the Osun State governor, Ademola Adeleke and members of the PDP in the state endorsed President Tinubu as their candidate for the 2027 general elections. In a strongly worded statement on Friday, the national publicity secretary of the party, Debo Ologunagba, noted that the matter was of serious concern.
Similarly, the chairman of the South-South zonal Caretaker Committee of the PDP, Emmanuel Ogidi, has disclosed that the NWC will review the activities of Wike and make a decision sometime next week.
