Says Varsity Sets to Produce World Class Transportation Engineers, Mgt and Planning Experts
The Minister of Transportation, Senator Said Ahmed Alkali, has expressed gratitude to the Chinese Government and China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) for their instrumental role in establishing the Federal University of Transportation, Daura (FUTD). Speaking, yesterday in Daura, at the university’s second matriculation ceremony, the minister commended the CCECC for its significant contributions to the university’s development.
The minister noted that the CCECC’s financial support was instrumental in facilitating the university’s take-off, including the conduct of the admission exercise and the commencement of academic activities. He praised the company’s commitment to the university’s growth, noting that the institution is the first of its kind in Africa, designed to modernize transport infrastructure and provide young Nigerians with academic opportunities in transportation engineering.
The minister also commended the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Umar Adam Katsayal, for his leadership and dedication to the university’s growth. He noted that despite the challenges faced by the university, including the non-release of take-off grants, the university has been able to conduct its maiden matriculation ceremony and is now witnessing its second matriculation ceremony. The minister attributed this success to the concerted efforts of the Ministry, the Governing Council, Senate, and Management of the university.
The Minister further expressed his gratitude to Mota-Engil Nigeria Limited for its generous financial support in the conduct of the matriculation ceremony. He noted that the company’s support is a testament to its commitment to the development of the transportation sector in Nigeria. The minister assured the students that the Federal Ministry of Transportation and the university will continue to work together to produce graduates of the highest quality who can compete favorably with other graduates all over the world.
Senator Alkali also appreciated the Government of Katsina State under the leadership of His Excellency, Mal. Dikko Umaru Radda, PhD, for its continued support to the university. He noted that the state government’s support has been instrumental in the university’s growth and development. The minister urged the state government to sustain its support to the university.
The Minister congratulated the matriculating students on being part of the FUTD family and wished them success in their academic journey. He urged them to take advantage of the opportunity to study in a specialized university and to work hard to achieve academic excellence. He assured the students that the Federal Ministry of Transportation will continue to deliver on its mandate to disseminate specialized knowledge in all modes of transportation.
The Minister expressed his gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his continued support to the education sector in Nigeria. He noted that the President is proud of the university’s progress and is committed to ensuring that the university achieves its goals.In his remarks, the Minister appealed to CCECC Nigeria Limited to sustain its commitments by commencing the second phase of the university’s development project. He noted that the company’s continued support will be crucial to the university’s growth and development. The Minister’s appeal was met with applause from the audience, who recognized the importance of the partnership between the university and CCECC.
