The Chief Whip of Katsina House of Assembly, Hon Ibrahim Umar Dikko, has appealed to the house to take immediate steps to protect the People of Matazu Local Government Area and its environments from the terrorism of bandits.
Presenting a dire report on the ordeals of the people on the floor of the House, the lawmaker, in a trembling voice, with tears streaming down his face, painting a grim picture of the challenges faced by his constituents, said, “Out of the 10 wards, 8 are under siege,” he declared.
The assembly hall fell silent as Hon. Dikko recounted the recent incidents of violence that had plagued the area. “Just yesterday, by the entrance of the town, near the secondary school, they killed a young man and rustled 4 sets of yoke of oxen,” he said.
The lawmaker’s emotional appeal highlighted the gravity of the situation, and the assembly members listened with rapt attention.
As Hon. Dikko continued his presentation, the full extent of the insecurity crisis became clear.
“Yesterday, they killed 5 farmers working on their farm. A day before then, they killed 7 farmers in their farms. Wallahi, the farms are inaccessible anymore, Mr. Speaker,” he added.
The lawmaker’s words painted a picture of a community in crisis, where farmers were being targeted and killed with impunity.
The assembly hall erupted into murmurs of shock and concern as Hon. Dikko concluded his presentation. The lawmaker’s emotional appeal had struck a chord, and the assembly members were clearly moved by the plight of the people of Matazu LGA.
“We are in dire need of help, we need help,” Hon. Dikko pleaded, his voice cracking with desperation.
