A change of guard ceremony took place at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where Prof Bello Sabo succeeded Prof Ahmed Doko Ibrahim as the new Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration. Prof Doko’s tenure ended on Sunday, 31st August 2025.
During the handing-over ceremony on Monday, 1st September 2025, Prof Doko highlighted the significance of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor’s role, noting that it serves as an extension of the Vice-Chancellor’s office. He emphasized the numerous responsibilities associated with the position, including assisting the Vice-Chancellor and chairing various boards.
“The office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration is an extension of the office of the Vice-Chancellor. The responsibilities of the office are enormous, and the new Deputy Vice-Chancellor is expected to assist the Vice-Chancellor in all ramifications,” Prof Doko said.

He added that by law, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration is a Principal Officer, Member of Council, Convocation, Congregation, and Management, among others. Prof Doko also mentioned that the Deputy Vice-Chancellor is the Chairman of several Boards, such as ABU Press, ABU Hotels, Demonstration Secondary School, and many others.
Prof Doko congratulated Prof Sabo on his new role and offered his support, encouraging him to reach out whenever needed. “I congratulate you on your new role, and I want to assure you that I am always available to offer support whenever you need it. Do not hesitate to call on me,” he said.
In response, Prof Sabo acknowledged Prof Doko’s achievements during his four-year tenure and expressed his determination to build on the existing legacies. “I want to acknowledge the tremendous achievements of Prof Doko in his four years in office. He performed wonderfully well and supported the Vice-Chancellor in so many activities of the university,” Prof Sabo said.
Prof Sabo thanked Prof Doko for the smooth and seamless transition and wished him well in all his future endeavors. “I want to thank Prof Doko for the smooth transition and wish him well in all his future endeavors. I am determined to justify the confidence reposed in me by the Vice-Chancellor and to build on the legacies already established by Prof Doko,” he added.
