Japanese Embassy Hosts Farewell and Welcome Reception for MEXT Scholars

The Embassy of Japan in Nigeria recently hosted a Farewell and Welcome Reception for Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholars on August 30, 2025. The event honored departing scholars embarking on their studies in Japan and celebrated the achievements of those who have recently returned, enriched by their experiences.

During the reception, Ambassador Suzuki Hideo delivered an inspiring address, encouraging the scholars to embrace their potential as future leaders, not only within Nigeria but across the African continent. He emphasized the importance of their roles in fostering a strong sense of camaraderie and collaboration between Japan and Nigeria.

The event provided a vibrant forum for scholars to connect, share their invaluable insights, and discuss their experiences. Esteemed members of the Nigeria-Japan Alumni Association (NAIJAA) also graced the occasion, highlighting the enduring spirit of collaboration and the continuous dedication of NAIJAA members in cultivating robust relationships between the two countries.

The Embassy extended its warmest wishes to the departing scholars as they embark on their academic journeys and offered a heartfelt welcome back to the returning scholars. The Embassy acknowledged the scholars’ invaluable contributions to Nigeria’s progress and the flourishing friendship between Japan and Nigeria.

The Embassy expressed sincere gratitude to NAIJAA for their extraordinary dedication and tireless efforts in promoting bilateral ties between Japan and Nigeria. The event underscored the importance of the scholars’ roles as a “treasure” in bolstering the relationship between the two countries.
