Traders Appeal for Government Assistance Following a Fire Incident at Jabi Wood Market

Urgent government assistance has been appealed for by traders after a blaze decimated their equipment, materials, and woodcraft at the popular Jabi Wood Market in Abuja. The fire caused extensive damage to numerous stalls and assets, with losses estimated in the millions of naira.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, December 3, 2025. Thick plumes of smoke filled the dawn sky as vendors and residents rushed to salvage goods from the engulfed structures, according to eyewitness accounts.

Emergency crews from the Federal and FCT Fire Services responded promptly to distress calls, successfully containing the blaze after a concerted effort. Officials have confirmed that no injuries or fatalities were reported.

Authorities have pledged to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the damage. An investigation into the cause of the fire is currently underway.

In light of the incident, market operators have been reminded to strictly adhere to all established fire safety guidelines to prevent future occurrences.
