The Federal University of Transportation, Daura (FUTD), has successfully concluded a two-day capacity building training for officers of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Daura, as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative. The training, themed “Vehicle Crash Worthiness and Road Crash Reconstruction,” aimed to enhance the knowledge and skills of participants on road safety, vehicle crashworthiness, and effective crash investigation.

The event took place on March 30-31, 2026, at the university’s permanent site in Daura. In his opening remarks, Vice-Chancellor Hon. Prof. Umar Adam Katsayal, mni, welcomed the officers and emphasized the importance of interactive sessions to improve understanding and service delivery. He highlighted the pivotal role of road safety in preventing accidents and appreciated the FRSC officers for their dedication.

The facilitator, Engr. Prof. Ibrahim Rafukka, presented on the fundamentals of road safety, emphasizing the need for safe roads, vehicles, and road users to prevent accidents. He identified environmental, road, human, and vehicle factors as major causes of road accidents and stressed the importance of vehicle safety systems in reducing crashes and fatalities. “Roads accidents kill people more than HIV/AIDS…” he noted.

The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Hon. Wahab Akanni Owokoniran, commended the university management for organizing the training and assured the FRSC of the university’s commitment to contributing to the well-being of its host communities. “By ensuring training of road safety officers, it is in a way preventing accidents and saving lives,” he said.

The training was attended by council members, including ACG Abbas Sule (Rtd), Dr. Kabir Ibrahim Getso, Prof. Ahmed Abubakar, and Umar Usman, as well as university officials, including the Registrar, Umar Farouk Bayu, Bursar, Dr. Oyedeji Rasheed Olarewaju, and University Librarian, Dr. Ibrahim Ahmadu.

The Chief Information and Communication Officer of the University, Malam Umar Usman, stated that the training was designed to equip participants with knowledge and skills to improve their existing knowledge on road safety, understand vehicle crashworthiness, and conduct effective crash investigation.
The event aimed to equip FRSC officers with the knowledge and skills necessary to enhance road safety in Nigeria.
