Senator Sunday Marshall Katung, representing Kaduna South Senatorial District, has said the ongoing construction of a 700-capacity Information and Communication Technology, ICT, and Computer-Based Test, CBT, centre in Zonkwa, Zangon Kataf Local Government Area, is aimed at bridging the digital divide and preparing youths in the area for opportunities in the modern economy.

The Senator stated this on Saturday during an inspection tour of the project site, noting that the facility was conceived to give students and young people in Southern Kaduna access to computers, digital skills training, and globally competitive examination platforms.

“Our young people, especially students, need early exposure to computers and modern technology. This centre is designed to provide them with ICT skills that will be relevant to their education and future careers,” Katung said.

The lawmaker expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work at the site, but charged the contractors to adhere strictly to specifications and deliver the project within the 12-month contractual period.

“I am impressed with what I have seen so far. However, I challenge the contractors to maintain this tempo and ensure the project is completed and delivered within the stipulated 12 months as agreed,” he said.

According to him, the centre will serve multiple purposes upon completion. Apart from functioning as a CBT centre for the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, West African Examinations Council, WAEC, and other professional examinations, it will also operate as a hub for digital learning, innovation, entrepreneurship and skills acquisition.

Katung added that the facility would be accessible to youths across the eight local government areas in Kaduna South Senatorial District, thereby democratizing access to digital competencies in the zone.

The Site Engineer, Builder Haruna Daniel, who conducted the Senator round the site, said the centre, when completed, would rank among the largest ICT facilities in the country. He assured that the contractors were committed to delivering a world-class project within the agreed timeline.

The inspection is part of Senator Katung’s routine monitoring of constituency projects facilitated for the people of Southern Kaduna.

The Senator also called on constituents to continue supporting the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the developmental strides of Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani.
