Hon. Professor Adam Umar Katsayal, mni, has facilitated civic engagement activities at Polling Unit 003 (Abdu 1), Katsayal Ward in Sandamu Local Government Area of Katsina State, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to a report on the activities, the engagement documented community interactions, voter education efforts, stakeholder consultations, and observations on democratic participation and distribution of empowerment materials within the Abdu 1 Polling Unit and the entire Katsayal Ward communities.

The report stated that the main purpose of the engagement is to strengthen voter education, promote civic responsibility, and support inclusive democratic processes, with emphasis on canvassing support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, Governor Dikko Umaru Radda, PhD, CON, and all candidates contesting under the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the forthcoming 2027 general elections.

The sessions focused on the importance of peaceful participation in elections, the role of citizens in safeguarding electoral integrity, clarification of INEC guidelines including voter accreditation and polling day procedures, encouraging eligible residents to verify their voter registration status, and the importance of voting for APC candidates.

The report added that the interactive meetings were conducted in accessible community spaces to ensure broad participation, with stakeholder consultations held with Polling Unit 003 electorates, Katsayal Ward leaders and community elders, youth associations, women’s groups, religious leaders and local security representatives.

On voter education, awareness and empowerment, the report said Professor Katsayal facilitated the distribution of empowerment materials, cash donations to help cushion the effects of fuel-subsidy removal, and non-partisan informational materials explaining steps in the voting process, prohibited activities at polling stations, and the importance of respecting electoral officials and procedures.

On observation of community readiness, the report listed key observations to include high interest among youth in participating in the forthcoming 2027 general elections, strong community emphasis on peaceful conduct of campaigns and voting, requests for improved INEC logistics including early arrival of materials, need for continued sensitization to counter misinformation, and positive collaboration between community leaders and security personnel.

Challenges identified in the report include limited access to official voter education materials in some areas, concerns about potential overcrowding at polling units due to population growth, need for improved communication channels between INEC and rural communities, and occasional misinformation circulating through informal networks.

The report recommended strengthening INEC outreach in Katsayal Ward through periodic briefings, expanding voter education programs targeting youth and women, improving infrastructure around Polling Unit 003 to support orderly voting, encouraging continuous collaboration between community leaders and security agencies, and promoting early dissemination of verified election information to reduce misinformation.

The report concluded that Hon. Professor Umar Katsayal, mni, continues to play an active institutional role in promoting civic responsibility, voter education, positive democratic participation, and peaceful engagement within his polling unit, Polling Unit 003, also referred to as Abdu 1, in particular and the entire Katsayal Ward communities, noting that these activities contribute positively to a more informed electorate and a more orderly pre-election environment.
