Army University Biu: Unimaid Don, Prof. Lawan Bala Buratai, Appointed Vice- Chancellor

Professor Lawan Bala Buratai, a distinguished academician and administrator, has been appointed as the Vice Chancellor (VC) of the Nigerian Army University Biu (NAUB).

Born in 1960 in Buratai village, Biu Local Government Area, Borno State, the new VC’s academic journey began at Buratai Primary School in 1968 and proceeded to Government Senior Science Secondary School Biu, where he obtained his West African Examination Council (WAEC) certification in 1980.

Professor Buratai earned his degree in Bio-Chemistry from the University of Maiduguri in 1986. He completed his national youth service in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, and thereafter obtained his master’s degree in Bio-Chemistry from the University of Maiduguri.

Professor Buratai earned his Ph.D. in Bio-Chemistry from Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria in 2001.

Professor Buratai’s academic career spans over three decades, with key milestones. He began his career as a graduate assistant at the University of Maiduguri in 1987, and rose to the rank of Senior Lecturer in 2002.

Professor Buratai became a Reader (Associate Professor) in 2007, and attained professorship in 2011.

The erudite professor and new VC of NUAB arising from his giant strides through the adamic landscape over the years has garnered a lot of experience in leadership. Professor Buratai served as Head of the Bio-Chemistry Department at the University of Maiduguri for six years, Kaduna State University, and Federal University Dutse.

He was Deputy Provost, College of Medical Sciences at the University of Maiduguri. He was the Director of International Partnership/Linkages at Nigerian Army University Biu, where he also served as Deputy Vice Chancellor, Central Administration at Nigerian Army University Biu.

Prof. Buratai has 50 well-written articles published in reputable and peer-reviewed journals, has attended several conferences, and has taught and mentored numerous students at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

As the newly appointed Vice Chancellor of NAUB, Professor Buratai brings a wealth of experience and expertise to drive academic excellence and innovation in the university.
