The Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, has strongly rejected suggestions that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a political burden to the North by some northern politicians, affirming that he is “an asset to the North and the nation,” and his administration is making steady progress in tackling the region’s challenges before 2027.
In a statement issued by his Senior Aide on Politics, Ibrahim Danmaliki Gidan Goga, Matawalle dismissed critics as opportunists spreading misinformation to gain relevance.
“These individuals had the opportunity to lead but left no meaningful legacy. Today, they parade themselves as defenders of the people, using falsehoods and crocodile tears to win sympathy,” the statement read.
“Our people in the North are wise enough to fall for such deceit.”
The minister urged unity behind Tinubu’s leadership, particularly in combating insecurity.
“We must be part of the solution, not the problem. The North stands to gain more through unity and support for a working leadership,” Matawalle said.
“Instead, we should support the president in his efforts to bring lasting peace and development to the North.”
He reassured Nigerians, especially northerners, of Tinubu’s dedication to security and progress.
“The president is fully committed to ensuring a safer, more prosperous future for all,” he concluded.
