Members of the Union of Fishermen and Seafood Dealers (UFSD) have appealed to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to allocate land for urban agriculture and multipurpose centers.
The request was made in a letter to the minister, which was shared with journalists in Kaduna on Saturday.
Alhaji Sani Usman Rilwanu, National President of UFSD, stated that the union had previously applied for land in the FCT through the Federal Capital Land Administration (AGIS). The application was acknowledged with reference number MISC 150735, and a follow-up reminder was submitted and acknowledged on December 16, 2024.
“In that letter, we informed the Minister of FCT of another letter we sent to the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security with the same request but replied and directed us to send our request to the FCT Minister, in a letter to us, reference No ALR/1809/Vol. 1,” Rilwanu said.
He expressed disappointment that no action had been taken despite sending another letter to the office of Vice President Kashim Shettima to expedite the process.
“We are still craving the indulgence of the Honourable Minister Wike to consider our request, which is in tandem with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda in revamping the economy, generating jobs and enhancing the value chain in the fisheries and seafood sector,” he added.
In their initial letter dated May 24, 2024, the union informed the minister that UFSD collaborates with the Institute of Fisheries in Boston, USA, and maintains a strong working relationship with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security.
