Pastor Tunde Bakare, Overseer of the Citadel Global Community Church, has condemned Nigeria’s worsening challenges, accusing President Bola Tinubu of leading the country toward tyranny.

In a recent address, Bakare denounced the rising violence in Edo, Benue, Plateau, Zamfara, Borno, and other states, noting that communities are forming “poorly trained, poorly equipped and unprofessional militias, with some taking the law into their own hands” due to lost faith in the government’s ability to protect them.

Bakare, a former APC presidential aspirant who lost the 2022 primaries to Tinubu, described Nigeria’s security crisis as a “dangerous trajectory,” urging a complete overhaul of the security architecture.

He attributed the failures to constitutional flaws, calling for a shift from protecting officials to safeguarding citizens.

He proposed restructuring security through zonal councils, stating: “We must redesign our security architecture by facilitating the formation of zonal security councils… managed by nonpartisan security experts.”

Bakare also criticized Tinubu’s handling of Rivers State’s political crisis and slammed the National Assembly as the “most spineless” in Nigeria’s history, citing Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suspension for demanding accountability.

He accused the Senate of descending into “political rascality,” referencing Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi’s remarks against former Minister Obi Ezekwesili as proof that the institution excludes “people of character and competence.”

Bakare blamed Tinubu for enabling legislative misconduct, saying: “Thanks to your political machination, this National Assembly has become the most ineffective.”

He warned of Nigeria’s slide into tyranny, stating: “What we have seen since the beginning of the year is a descent into tyranny and the brazen abuse of power.”

Bakare called for psychiatric evaluations for aspiring leaders, declaring that citizens must demand a governance “state of emergency.”
