During a recent inspection of the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano Road (Zuba Section), the Minister of State for Works, Bello Muhammad Goronyo, Esq., confirmed that six kilometres—three on each side—of reinforced rigid concrete pavement have been completed in Phase 1 of the project.
Pleased with the progress, the minister praised contractor Messrs Infiouest (Nig.) Limited for upholding high standards and aligning with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
“The quality of work delivered so far reflects the president’s unwavering commitment to national development through robust infrastructure,” he said.
In a statement by the ministry’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Mohammed A. Ahmed, the minister lauded the workforce’s dedication and the deployment of modern equipment. He stressed that the completed road would cut travel time, boost safety, reduce insecurity, stimulate trade, and generate jobs.
On the durability of the construction, Goronyo remarked, “What we are seeing here is superb. The reinforced rigid pavement is expected to last 50 to 100 years, superior to conventional asphalt.”
Robert Turner, Project Manager for the construction firm, assured that no compromises were being made. “There are no shortcuts. We are giving our very best to achieve the project’s goals,” he stated.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Works, Engr. Olufunsho O. Adebiyi, highlighted the necessity of rigid pavement technology for Nigeria’s soil conditions and heavy traffic loads.
“Rigid pavement is new to Nigeria, but it has become necessary due to the consistent failure of flexible pavements under our local conditions,” he explained.
