In a move to boost staff welfare and development, the Federal Government has unveiled the Tertiary Institution Staff Support Fund (TISSF), a loan scheme providing up to ₦10 million to eligible tertiary institution staff.

The initiative, launched in Abuja, aims to promote financial stability, improve quality of life, and support career advancement for staff across Nigeria’s tertiary institutions.

According to the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Alausa, “TISSF is not just about welfare. It is about empowerment… We are ensuring that our education workforce is supported to live well, grow professionally, and continue contributing meaningfully to institutional excellence.”

The loan scheme, capped at 33.3% of gross annual salary, can be used for transportation, medical support, and micro-enterprise ventures. The programme will be implemented in partnership with the Bank of Industry to ensure transparency and effective delivery.

Stakeholders, including Vice Chancellors, Rectors, and Provosts, have expressed strong support for the initiative, describing it as timely and essential for boosting staff morale and improving performance.
