President Bola Tinubu hosted the victorious Super Falcons at the Presidential Villa on Monday, celebrating their historic WAFCON comeback victory against Morocco as a symbol of Nigeria’s indomitable spirit. The 3-2 win, achieved after being down 2-0, drew profound reflections from the nation’s leaders about its unifying power.
President Tinubu drew parallels between the team’s performance and national values, stating: “Your victory represents more than a sporting accomplishment. It is a triumph of courage, determination, discipline, and consistency.”
He recounted how the match became a shared national experience, with citizens collectively riding the emotional wave from despair to jubilation.
The President revealed his initial reluctance to watch, fearing the stress, but became captivated as the Falcons mounted their comeback.
“When it was 2-0, I got very offended and restless… After that penalty, my strength was lifted, and I believe that of the nation was lifted too,” he shared, highlighting how sports can elevate national morale.
Senator Oluremi Tinubu praised the players as exemplary role models, noting: “You played with passion, confidence, and an unshakeable belief in yourselves—that it is not over until it is over.”
She boldly predicted greater achievements, telling the President: “You are going on to win the World Cup,” a sentiment captain Rasheedat Ajibade enthusiastically endorsed.
Ajibade described the victory as a national inheritance: “This 10th title is for you, Mr. President, for Nigerians, for Super Falcons, and for every young child who dreams to be on this stage.”
She appealed for sustained investment in women’s football to nurture future champions.
President Tinubu committed to advancing women’s football and youth sports development, calling the Falcons “champions of the Nigerian dream” in this era of Renewed Hope.
