President Bola Tinubu has pledged his administration’s continued commitment to cybersecurity, ensuring Nigerians are protected in both digital and physical spaces as the country expands its digital economy.
Speaking at the Progressive Digital Media Summit in Abuja on Friday, Tinubu emphasized the transformative power of digital media in driving economic growth and empowering youth. He announced strategic investments in digital infrastructure to make internet access a universal right.
“We will not lose focus on cybersecurity. Every Nigerian has a right to be protected in both the physical and digital domains. As our digital ecosystem grows, so must our collective responsibility to ensure safety, trust, and accountability,” he stated.
The summit, themed ‘Unveiling the Critical Role of New Media in National Development,’ brought together media professionals, innovators, and youth leaders to discuss digital media’s impact on Nigeria’s progress.
Tinubu commended young Nigerians for using digital platforms to demand accountability and create solutions, urging them to leverage their influence for national good.
“You are that possibility. Use your platforms not just for self-expression, but to solve problems, create jobs, foster unity, and lift others. Let your digital footprint reflect the best of our nation,” he said.
The President highlighted government initiatives like a digital innovation fund and reduced regulatory barriers to support startups. He encouraged youth to champion digital literacy and integrity, stressing that leadership requires action, not just rhetoric.
“Nigeria’s prosperity will be shaped by many forces, but none will be more powerful than the choices made by those who dare to imagine and act,” he added.
Drawing inspiration from Nigeria’s female footballers, Tinubu urged the youth to lead with resilience. “Don’t just be ready for the future. Lead it,” he declared, describing young Nigerians as the nation’s greatest asset.
