Amnesty International has pressed President Bola Tinubu to urgently investigate the 2019 abduction of Abubakar Idris (Dadiyata), the outspoken lecturer and social commentator who vanished without trace.
Marking six years since masked men seized Dadiyata from his Kaduna home on August 2, 2019, Amnesty’s Nigeria Director Isa Sanusi declared: “Where is Dadiyata? Time is running out. The family needs disclosure. The country needs answers.”
At a Saturday press briefing, Sanusi described the case as symptomatic of Nigeria’s “deteriorating human rights landscape,” stressing: “Even if the government didn’t take him, they failed to protect him.”

He demanded authorities lead the search, warning “This is not just about Dadiyata. It’s about all Nigerians who dare to speak truth to power.”
The family’s anguish was laid bare by Dadiyata’s brother Usman stating: “Our father is barely holding on… My brother was not a criminal. He was a patriotic Nigerian who used his voice for justice.”
His wife Khadija revealed their children’s unanswered cries: “They keep asking me, ‘Where is Daddy?’ I have no answers. We live in grief every single day.”
Security agencies have remained silent since the abduction, with no investigation updates or arrests reported.
