The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has launched a major security operation targeting unauthorized mining activities across the nation’s capital.

FCT Commissioner of Police Ajao Saka Adewale revealed the development Tuesday following a high-level security meeting chaired by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike at his Life Camp residence.

“The issue of illegal mining springing up around the city has equally been of concern, and you would understand the security implications of this,” Adewale told journalists.

“He (FCT Minister) has given a directive that those illegal mining sites be shut down.”

The security committee conducted comprehensive threat assessments addressing multiple challenges including destitution and street begging, unauthorized IDP settlements, unregulated shanties and persistent traffic violations.

Police Commissioner Adewale confirmed the minister has mandated security agencies to eliminate all identified threats to life and property in the capital territory.
