First 44th Olubadan Coronation Lecture: Toyin Falola to Trace Ibadan’s Legacies in Coronation Lecture, Wednesday September, 14th, 2025

As preparations for the coronation and presentation of Staff of Office to Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja as the 44th Olubadan, is nearing perfection, the intellectual community is abuzz with excitement, especially given the naming of a distinguished and African most celebrated scholar, Professor Toyin Falola, as Presenter of the first Olubadan coronation’s Lecture.

Professor Falola who is one of Ibadan’s most illustrious sons, is returning to his homeland to deliver a coronation lecture that promises to be a highlight of the occasion.

Born in the historic Ode-Aje Quarters of Ibadanland, Professor Falola has made a name for himself as a leading authority on African history and culture. His lecture will explore the significance and centrality of Ibadan to the history and survival of Yorubaland, delving into the city’s rich past and its transformation from a humble village to a thriving megapolis.

A statement of invite shared, on September 19th, 2025, by Aderemi Raji-Oyelade Magaji Adegboro which invites the general public to attend the imperial lecture, stated that the lecture will be held at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan, on Wednesday, September 24, 2025. As members of the intellectual community, it is our duty to honour the Imperial Majesty and the Imperial lecturer with our presence.
