The Sangarin Kwandare of Nasarawa in Nasarawa State, Alhaji Ahmadu Al-Makura, has threatened that no political party can win the 2027 gubernatorial and presidential elections in the state apart from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Addressing a delegation of APC members led by the Nasarawa State Governor, Dr. Abdullahi A. Sule, who paid him a courtesy call at his palace recently, the Emir warned that some “unfaithful” individuals are coalescing against the APC in the 2027 election in the state, but they are wasting their time, as the APC will emerge victorious as long as he is alive.
He stated, “Whoever wins the election other than the APC will be as good as losing it,” insinuating that even if it goes against the will and votes of the majority of the people, the ruling APC must remain in power.
This statement comes amidst public concerns that President Bola Tinubu’s administration is planning to make Nigeria a one-party system, a claim that attracted widespread condemnation from opposition parties, lawyers, and civil society organizations.
Analysts view the Emir’s statement as an affront to Nigeria’s democratic dispensation, which could trigger unwanted repercussions ahead of the 2027 elections.
The Emir is expressing his own opinion albeit threateningly. The ADC and other opposition parties have also said clear without mincing words that PBAT will be defeated in 2027 otherwise as one coalition leader, El-Rufai, puts it, Nigeria will cease to exit. If this is not a threat, let someone tell us what a threat is.
People have rights to express their views, wether royalty, ex-governor, ‘talakawas’ or what have you. I come in peace.
