The Global Skills Hub, United Kingdom, has nominated the Executive Secretary of Nigeria’s National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), Professor Idris Muhammad Bugaje, as one of most impactful Education Personalities in the Africa A statement announcing Professor Bugaje’s nomination said “the official certificate of recognition will be presented to the Executive Secretary during the 4th African Education Summit which will take place at the University of Professional Studies, Accra, Ghana, between 19th – 21st March, 2026.
Professor Bugaje is a highly acclaimed Nigerian academic and administrator with over 40 years of experience in education and technical fields. He currently serves as the Executive Secretary of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), where he has implemented numerous initiatives to improve the quality and relevance of technical education in Nigeria. Some of his notable achievements include establishing six zonal offices of the NBTE, reactivating the Centre of Excellence sponsored by UNESCO, and introducing the Dual Certification and Mandatory Skills Qualification (MSQ) scheme to enhance employability and skills development among graduates.
Professor Bugaje has a strong academic background, holding a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from Ahmadu Bello University and a Ph.D. in Energy Engineering from the University of Newcastle Upon-Tyne, UK. He has published over 68 papers in journals and books, with more than 1,000 Google Scholar citations, and holds five patents. His research focuses on renewable energy, particularly biofuels.

Throughout his career, Professor Bugaje has held various leadership positions, including Rector of Kaduna Polytechnic and Director-General of the National Research Institute for Chemical Technology (NARICT).
