Why Nigeria Must Resist External Manipulations Disguised as ‘Christian Protection’, By Eguando Tone Jeff

The recent decision by Donald Trump to classify Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” has little to do with any genuine love or concern for Christians in Nigeria. In truth, Nigerian Christians are not facing genocide. For decades, Muslims and Christians in Nigeria have lived together in peace, mutual respect, and understanding — and will continue to do so.

Both faiths share a common enemy: the radical Islamic terrorist groups Boko Haram and ISWAP, whose heinous acts of violence have claimed more Muslim lives than Christian ones, according to credible statistics.

What Nigerian Christians — and indeed all Nigerians — truly seek from the United States is genuine partnership and support: Military intelligence sharing, Provision of advanced military hardware, and Financial intelligence cooperation to help Nigeria decisively end the threat of terrorism.

Mr. Trump and his allies should not use the false narrative of “Christian genocide” as a pretext to launch another “weapons of mass destruction” or “regime change” operation — tactics that have left nations like Iraq and Libya in ruins for over a decade.

Nigerians cheering Mr. Trump should pause and reflect on history. Whenever the American political establishment pushes such narratives, what usually follows are destabilization, chaos, and the looting of resources. Look at Iraq, Yemen, Syria, Libya, and even Ukraine — all nations that have suffered severe instability under similar Western interference.

This sudden concern about Christians in Nigeria carries a deeper economic undertone. Nigeria is rising. A 650,000 barrels-per-day refinery is operational, and within the next three years, total national refining capacity could exceed 1.6 million barrels per day. Our lithium and other critical minerals are increasingly in global demand.

Meanwhile, China has become a strong economic ally, while the United States and its Western partners are losing influence and economic advantage in sub-Saharan Africa. Their only remaining strategy is to create crises, supply weapons, and plunder resources — as they did in Iraq, Syria, and Libya.

Now, their focus is on Nigeria — the pride and hope of the Black race.

We must unite as Nigerians, regardless of religion or ethnicity, and resist these divisive tactics. Let us stand firm, as the Afghans did, against foreign manipulation and exploitation.

God Bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
