The Federal Government of Nigeria has activated emergency protocols to evacuate Nigerian citizens from Israel and Iran following the recent escalation of hostilities between both nations.
In an official statement released Tuesday evening, Mr. Kimiebi Ebienfa, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, confirmed that the Nigerian embassies in Tel Aviv and Tehran have commenced immediate coordination efforts to ensure the safe return of affected citizens.
“The Federal Government is currently finalizing arrangements for the emergency evacuation of Nigerian nationals stranded in both countries,” the statement read.
The Ministry urged all Nigerian citizens in the affected regions to remain calm and vigilant, strictly adhere to local security advisories, and immediately register with the nearest Nigerian diplomatic mission.
The Ministry commended the dedication of embassy staff, noting “the exceptional efforts being made by our missions in Tel Aviv and Tehran to assist the Nigerian community during this challenging period.”
Nigeria has reiterated its call for de-escalation, urging “all parties to pursue diplomatic solutions, respect international humanitarian law, and prioritize the protection of civilian lives.”
This evacuation order follows Israel’s recent military strikes on Iranian territory, which resulted in significant casualties, including senior military officials. Iranian authorities have vowed retaliatory measures, further heightening regional tensions.
The Federal Government is collaborating with international partners and relevant authorities to facilitate a smooth evacuation process, with further operational details including timelines and logistical arrangements to be communicated through official channels in due course.
