The Publisher and Group Editor-in-chief of Education Monitor Group of Newspapers and Publishers of FCT News Gazette, Malam Waziri Isa Adam, has awarded a 300 Level student of the department of Mass Communication, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Ms Nafisa Muhammad Iman, a reporting job with FCT News Gazette.

The Publisher who is also a lecturer at the department, gave Iman the reporting job as a reward for emerging as the best-performing student in his course, Communication and Society, during the last semester examinations.

The announcement was made during a lecture on Saturday, July 26, 2025, in the presence of fellow students. Nafisa was the first among six top students selected, as she scored the highest marks in the course.

Malam Waziri, founder of The FCT News Gazette, an Abuja-based online news platform, appointed Nafisa a reporter at the outlet. Five other students were also offered similar roles.

The recognition left Nafisa emotional and appreciative. Speaking after the gesture, Nafisa said: “I honestly thought I had done something wrong… But then he began to speak, not to scold me, but to appreciate me. That gesture reminded me that our efforts never go unnoticed, even in silence.”

The appointment is part of the lecturer’s effort to mentor and empower students through practical media engagement. The moment was met with applause and admiration from classmates.
