Human rights advocate Deji Adeyanju has issued a direct challenge to President Bola Tinubu, urging him to apply the decisive military approach recently deployed to help stop a coup in the Republic of Benin to the persistent threat of terrorism within Nigeria’s own borders.
In a Monday statement, Adeyanju commended the Nigerian military’s swift and forceful intervention in Benin, which utilized air and ground assets to defend democratic governance. He described the operation as a demonstration of Nigeria’s capacity to project stability regionally.
“This is truly a proud moment for me as a Nigerian who loves democracy and understands the dangers of military rule,” Adeyanju stated. “Let this stand as a clear signal to all who seek to undermine democracy in the Sahel that their days are numbered.
“Yet the activist sharply contrasted this external success with the ongoing internal security crisis, where terrorist and bandit attacks continue across northern and central states. He argued that Nigeria’s regional leadership rings hollow if it cannot guarantee safety for its own citizens.
“The same might displayed in Benin should be applied with even greater resolve to crush the terrorist groups operating within our borders, so that Nigeria can truly lead by example,” Adeyanju emphasized.
