President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has promised to enhance the welfare of Nigerian police personnel, ensuring their salaries and benefits reflect the gravity of their responsibilities and risks they face daily. The President made this promise during the maiden edition of the National Police Day celebrations at the Eagle Square in Abuja.
“We are taking decisive steps to improve the conditions under which our police officers serve. Adequate housing, accessible healthcare, and quality education for your children are priorities we are committed to fulfilling,” Tinubu stated. “These promises will begin to materialize immediately.”
The President emphasized the crucial role of the Nigeria Police Force as the cornerstone of national security and the first line of defense against crime. He commended Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun and his team for their remarkable work in advancing reforms aligned with the administration’s goals.
According to Tinubu, the administration will provide modern tools and technology to enhance the operations of the force, as well as adequate accommodations, accessible healthcare, and quality education for families of police personnel. “We will leave no stone unturned in ensuring effective policing, the safety of lives and property, and the resolution of internal security challenges such as banditry, insurgency, and kidnapping,” he assured.
The President declared April 7 as an annual National Police Day to honor fallen heroes and acknowledge the bravery of police personnel. IGP Egbetokun highlighted the significance of National Police Day, which provides an opportunity to remember fallen heroes and acknowledge the bravery of police personnel in theatres of operation across the country and beyond.
